Post Event Recap
The 2010 REAL Lone Star Championships & Pro Showdown was another first-class event presented by REAL founders, Kai and Jason C Powell. Pre-judging took place in the morning where competitors brought their best to the stage vying for top honors in their category. The evening kicked off with a competitor meet and greet followed by finals. The atmosphere was filled with great energy and excitement! Special VIP tables in front of the stage offered hors d’oeuvres, custom made REAL chocolate bars, and gift bags filled with sponsor gifts.

As long-time competitors and promoters, this was Jason and Kai’s first event under the REAL name and the event boasted over 50 competitors including incredible pro bodybuilders and fitness models from all over the U.S including Miami, Atlanta and Minnesota. There were international competitors hitting the REAL stage as Canada, Mexico and Australia were represented!
The REAL Lone Star held competitions in REAL Beauty, Fitness Model, Figure and Bodybuilding. A range of experience levels and ages were represented at this event as Novice, Open, Advanced, Pro and Masters divisions were all onstage competing.
REAL crowned its first REAL Beauty winner, Brittney Layne. Brittney walked away with a beautiful crown and was even one of the 3 finalists chosen for the Optimum Nutrition Spokesperson Search!

In another first, the REAL Lone Star held a bodybuilding Pro Showdown in which a challenge was placed for anyone to challenge REAL’s pro, Chris Heitman. In an interesting twist, the challenger ended up being none other than Chris’ best friend, Tuan Tran. Chris ended up just edging out his competition in an exciting head-to-head battle. Chris walked away with a beautiful acrylic trophy and a custom-made championship ring from Jostens.

Another impressive category of REAL Pros was the Fitness Model category. Everette Henderson, Lucas Irwin and Malcolm Houston put on impressive displays in swimsuit and themewear rounds. It was a tough call, but REAL was proud to announce Malcolm Houston as its Lone Star Pro Fitness Model champion. Malcolm also walked away with a custom acrylic trophy and a custom-made championship ring from Jostens.
In another great competition, REAL had its first Transformation Challenge. Competitors took a 12 week journey of transformation which they blogged on REAL’s social site, The REAL Spot.org. Two finalists were welcomed to the stage to tell the stories of their amazing journeys: Melanie Matheny and Elena Guiles. Both stories were inspiring to competitors and spectators. Congratulations to Elena for walking away with the first place award for REAL’s first Transformation Challenge.
This year also marked the return of the Optimum Nutrition Spokesperson Search! Finalists were REAL Beauty competitor Brittney Layne, Fitness Model competitor Scotty Lindsey, and Pro Bodybuilder Tuan Tran. Jason Powell was joined onstage by another Optimum Nutrition athlete, Amber Passini. Jason and Amber asked the finalists a few questions about True Strength and training in general to see how they handled on- the-spot questions with charisma and enthusiasm. All finalists were well-spoken, but in the end, the honors were awarded to Tuan Tran.

Sponsor, La Colombe D’or Mansion, gave away 2 consecutive nights in one of their villas (valued at $1000). It was exciting to see the only couple in the competition win the drawing!! Bodybuilder, Jed and Fitness Model Kim Knowlton, will enjoy a weekend getaway compliments of La Colombe D’or
Special awards were also presented during the awards ceremony. Award recipients included Lavon Washington as the Rising Star (up and coming novice competitor), Malcolm Houston as the Shining Star (most entertaining) and in a fun finish, newcomer Jose Campos walked away with the Best Poser (bodybuilding) and the Lone Star award
After the event, competitors headed to the Hilton where REAL provided numerous pizzas to satisfy the competitors post-competition appetites! As you can imagine, the supply didn’t last very long!
The 2010 REAL Lone Star was another exciting event to mark down in the books as a success. Competitors had a great time, spectators were entertained and most importantly, inspired. For REAL, that’s all that we can ask for and we are truly humbled to know that we put on a show worthy of all of the incredible compliments we’ve received thus far.
We hope to see you all at the REAL Deal Challenge in September and in Miami in November!
